NZ Christmas

My aplogies on no major Majacraft news for you today. My family and I had a lovely Christmas day which was very nice and relaxed. We had a French toast breakfast and fruit lunch. In the afternoon we got a water slide out for the […]

You know what this is…

Not Majacraft news

Here is some not Majacraft news – mostly. Three more days of work this year before our summer break. The “That Project” wheels are just about finished. I guess they will probably not make the Christmas stockings this year but should be there soon after. For those who are interested in the Treasure Hunt I mentioned a post or two ago, the clues were not just going to be hidden in photos, reread the message 🙂

And here is the not the Majacraft news. I went to see Avatar in 3d over the weekend. I thought it was absolutely breathtaking! Now in saying that, I am a sci fi fan and can usually find something redeeming in most movies. I found it exciting, moving, a spectacle and highly recommend it. I plan on seeing it at least once more so would suggest that if you are on the fence GO SEE IT!

Thats all for now.

The Majacraft Christmas party

As the year wraps up for us at the workshop, we had our end of year party/lunch today.  Games of petanque, drinks, a BBQ and lovely pavlova dessert under the gingko tree made for a very pleasant afternoon. We only have 3-4 days before we […]

The water wheel – PTII

Owen’s water wheel project has been progressing well. I am sure you don’t appreciate how much of a relief this is, however, without a new water wheel we will soon run out of water for cups of tea at morning break. Truly a grave situation! […]

THAT Big Project

Greetings!

For a time of the year when one might expect things to be a little quieter, we have been going flat out. In amongst shipping wheels to lots of lucky Christmas present receivers, I have been able to get a bit of time on some of our other projects, including that BIG one mentioned on Ravelry :-).

Well, the parts I completed the tech drawing for have returned and we are excited that they appear to have turned out even better than we had hoped. I must admit I get goosebumps each time I go down and look at them on the wheel in the workshop. We are in the process of building two new revision prototypes (Beta versions?) that we plan on shipping to some spinners who are looking forward to them – hopefully also for Christmas but the 24th is racing up. I would love to be able to tell you everything but I can’t sorry. In time – not too far away, we will give out some more to whet your appetite. Until then… keep guessing!

A nice place to work

One of the things that is quite special about working at Majacraft is the enviroment. The workshop is actually Owen and Glynis’ old farm shed that we converted and hence we work on their little farm. They really enjoy trees and plants so we have […]

Bobbins, bobbins, bobbins

Hi there, I have been on bobbin duty today turning lace and jumbo bobbins. Since working at Majacraft I have had to learn wood turning which has been a fun and valuable skill. I had done a bit of metal turning both at school and […]

The original Free Standing Skeiner

I thought you may have been interested in seeing some of the first prototypes of the wheels and tools we now build. While we do not have the prototypes for everything still (somehow they seem to get lost or canabilised), there are still quite a few in storage. I thought this one was “DONE” but when I put it to the others, they were not so keen on the design of the feet. It is still possible to see the evolution of where the skeiner ended up though. If you are interested in the wood, it is called ‘Pacific Hardwood’ which is actually resin injected pine. We experimented with Pacific Hardwood for quite a while as it had some great properties.

I have spotted another couple of prototype wheels about so if you are interested, drop in some feedback and I will dig out the camera again.

“In a Spin” launch

Greetings 🙂 If you have been on the Majacraft web site recently you will probably have noticed quite a bit of activity around the release of “In a Spin”, the new book by Pat Old. We took part in the launch of her book at […]
